(...Continued) Our normal approach to tackling a project of this magnitude would be to split it up into phases and then progressively define the work to be performed in co-operation with your management, operations and design teams. Our view is that it is to the benefit of both parties to ensure that the application is designed correctly according to the understood needs. A budgetary quotation like the one we are presenting here is an excellent start to get some idea of the raw size of a project but during the detailed requirements definition and design stages new ideas, requirements are identified and sometimes redundant functionality discarded. It is therefore in both parties interest to ensure that the quotes are relevant to the state of the design. We suggest to our clients that we quote for each phase. One of the deliverables of that phase will be the quote for the succeeding phase. This approach eliminates risk for both parties. We have a local (South African) design and support team which is normally responsible for authoring the detailed work packages sent to the outsource facility (OF). We have key staff on site in the OF whose main function is to ensure that the work packages are executed efficiently and the potential communication problems are eliminated prior to bottleneck or misinterpretation. |
